Trombone: Matthey Chankay

Matthew Chankay

Trombone

Matthew Chankay is in his second semester at Fullerton College and has been playing the trombone for a decade. He started in 4th grade on trumpet, playing for two years until he switched to trombone in 6th grade. Matthew stayed on trombone through two years of middle school and four years at Savanna High, under directors Brian Belski and Fernando Penaloza. His main teacher is the greatest trumpet player he’s ever played with – Rudy Arevalos. “I’ve been lucky that I learned with him all through high school, and he has invited me to teach and learn how to teach brass with him this past season with his schools.” Matthew has been a part of numerous district honor ensembles as first chair, the proudest being the inaugural CSUF Titan HS Honor Band last year. He currently works at Disneyland in merchandise.
